My first week working as an Education Intern for the American Museum of Ceramic Art has been very beneficial to me. I am working with the museum’s educational director Angie Reyes and so far she has given me work and knowledge that will augment my skills not only as an educator, but as a curriculum and activity planner. She has me working on a teacher packet for the new exhibition coming up titled, Patti Warashina: Wit and Wisdom.
The instruction and direction given to me by Angie is a very clear and straight forward, while providing me the leeway to experiment with the creating the teacher packet. Another assignment that I am working on is AMOCAFEST which is an event in October at AMOCA. I’m currently trying to obtain performers and a band for the event and I’m waiting to hear back from them. Also this week Angie took all the interns out to LACMA to attend gallery discussion on how to view sculptures. Unfortunately due to the traffic caused by the LA Kings winning the Stanley Cup we were unable to make it. Instead we went through several exhibitions and sought to understand ourselves how to appreciate sculptures. After we finished our self guided tours we obtained summer passes from LACMA allowing us to come back whenever we please until the end of September. It has been really so far.
