Arthur: Week Two

It has been an exciting few weeks. The first event was my first HUB event at Scripps College, where I met the other interns in the area. We got a chance to view an exhibit that was designed by grad students and it was a pretty spectacular exhibit. After we viewed the exhibit I and the other Interns had a pizza lunch and arranged to have carpool set up. I volunteered to drive.

The following Monday myself and 3 other interns drove to The Getty to attend the Art Summit. The event was packed full of people and it was really fun to meet new people and build networking connections. Of the four seminars I attended the one that interested me most was the Museum Education seminar. The speaker presented a strong argument why the Museum Education Department is so important, because though the museum can obtain and present various works of art, without someone to put them into a relative context for the viewer there is no value. The afternoon consisted of museum tours that displayed a portion of the Getty’s vast collection and lunch wasn’t half bad either. The drive back after the event however was horrible due to the LA traffic.

This week proved to be more of a challenge for me as designing a teacher packet for a art museum is something new and challenging in various ways for me. However it is an educational experience that I will benefit from because of the unique aspect of the artistic view toward education is something I have yet to experience.
