Brent Hendry: Frayed

May 12, 2018 – June 24, 2018
Opening Reception: Saturday, May 12th, 6-9pm
Artist Presentation @ 7:30pm

Finding inspiration from textural contrasts found in nature, Brent Hendry builds pottery that explores the organic form of bulbous plants. Defined by varying surfaces and smooth transitions, his work exhibits the subtlety between the bulb and the emerging leaves. The direction of Brent’s work has been defined by the similarity of the frailty of new growth and that of drying clay.

The wheel-thrown and handmade bases dictate the shape and texture of the neck that top each form. In his work, Brent creates frayed edges that sprout from the base by stretching and distorting stamped slabs beyond their breaking point. The divergent surfaces develop dramatic glaze interactions typical of his work.
