The Ceramics Studio at AMOCA offers community classes in ceramics and clay year-round. Various classes are available and designed for everyone from beginners to experienced artists. We teach traditional wheel-throwing and hand-building techniques while encouraging students to discover their own artistic voice with the clay. Students in all classes are welcome and encouraged to take advantage of our open studio time on Saturdays. AMOCA Members receive a discount on all class fees.


More Spring 2012 Classes!

April - June

Beginning & Advanced Wheel Throwing

  This 9 week course will be a great way for you to expand your ideas on making pots as well as seeing plenty of diverse techniques to approaching the process. I will bring in pieces of my own as well as other artist's pots while doing demos to expose you to different styles and hopefully help you define your work and learn a comfortable way of your own.  I will do various demonstrations on each project to accommodate everyone such as doing demos on kick and electric wheels and can offer information on dealing with stoneware and porcelain. Please come to each class excited, ready for new insights, prepared for lots of practice and a "Whatever It Takes" attitude!

Schedule:

April 11 - June 1 (nine weeks / 18 classes)

Wednesday & Friday 10am - 12am

*Saturdays 9am-6pm are Open Studio hours for The Ceramics Studio at AMOCA students. Students are encouraged to come in during their free time to practice on the wheels and work on their projects.

(Make-up times for missed classes or holidays can be arranged)

Cost: $200 (member price: $175)

Continuing Ceramics - Beginning & Intermediate

This is a great class for beginner plus students who have had experience on the wheel or hand-building in the past and would like to continue working in clay.

Students will start out with learning basic hand-building techniques in clay. From slab construction to coil pots the student will create one of a kind pottery or sculpture to glaze and take home. Students will also have the opportunity to focus on and practice basic throwing skills on the potter’s wheel. Students must be advised that throwing takes practice and patience. Coming to the studio on Saturdays for open studio hours is encouraged.

If you already have some experience, please come to class with project ideas and goals so our instructors can help you achieve successful results.

April 24th – June 21st (9 Weeks / 18 classes)
Tuesdays and Thursdays 6:00pm-9:00pm
