Special Exhibitions

AMOCA, located in a former bank building, has converted a challenging space - the former vault - into a unique exhibition space. Exhibitions in this area are separate presentations to the core content exhibited in the main gallery. Often featured are contemporary artists, solo shows, installation pieces or recent acquisitions. The Association of Clay and Glass Artists of California is dedicated to establishing and maintaining high standards of craftsmanship and design in clay and glass. The ACGA began as the Association of San Francisco Potters in 1945. We now have over 500 members including clay and glass artists, students, patrons and supporters, galleries, network organizations and corporate sponsors from throughout California.

Soldaderas es una palabra que usa para describir a las mujeres que acompañaban a los soldados o luchaban junto a ellos durante la Revolución mexicana. La palabra aquí es apropiada para describir las mujeres destacadas de la cerámica mexicana. Esta exhibición presenta obras por la renombrada, Josefina Aguilar junto a otras mujeres vanguardistas de la cerámica artesanal de México.

Soldaderas is a Spanish term given to the female soldiers who fought alongside men during the Mexican Revolution. The term is here appropriated to describe the leading female Mexican ceramic artists. This exhibitions features work by renowned artist, Josefina Aguilar alongside other avant-garde female Mexican folk ceramic artists.

Esta exhibición presenta las obras de Herón Martínez Mendoza, uno de los artistas pioneros que desarrolló la tradición mexicana de los árboles de la vida. Habrá un altar hecho por la comunidad dedicado a Mendoza y otros artistas entre una colorida exposición de árboles de la vida representando la tradición artesanal de México.

November 9, 2013 - January 26, 2014

This exhibition will feature Herón Martínez Mendoza, a pioneer artist who developed the tree of life Mexican tradition. There will be a community altar dedicated to Mendoza among a colorful display of trees of life representing the Mexican Folk Pottery practice.
