In conjunction with the opening reception of Lineage: Mentorship & Education, artist and educator Nancy Selvin will present a lecture titled, Ceramics in Northern California 1960 Onward. She will reflect on the progression of California ceramic art and the radical departure from the ceramic art tradition that occurred in the Bay area during the 1960s, a time of social and political upheaval there and nationally. Nancy will also discuss the “lineage” that characterizes academic ceramic programs today and the more recent reconceptualization of what constitutes ceramic art.
Nancy has lived and worked in Berkeley, CA for almost forty years. She is on the Faculty of California College of the Arts in Oakland and is owner of Selvin Studios.
