Scouts can get their hands dirty and earn a badge at AMOCA’s Scouts Day! This program was developed to help troops, dens, and packs to reach individual badge requirements in art and pottery. Participants learn about the technical, historical, scientific, and aesthetic aspects of ceramics. Come as a group, or sign up as an individual! At the conclusion of the workshop, scouts will qualify to receive their merit badges. This event is fun for scouts in grades 1 – 12! Parent and group leaders work with their groups. Free admission for two chaperones per group is included. The fee is $25.00 per scout. AMOCA patches are available for purchase for $4.00 at the AMOCA Store.
Day 1 – February 25
Museum admission with a field guide and docent led tour
Making a ceramic work of art during a professional artist-led studio session
AMOCA studio tour and artist demonstration on the wheel. Two sessions are available, space is limited.
Session I: 12:00 – 3:00 PM
Session II: 1:00 – 4:00 PM
Day 2 – March 18
Glazing workshop Approximately 1 hour
12:00 – 3:00 PM (Register in advance for your 1 hour time slot during Scout Day)
Day 3 – April 1 – 29
Date T.B.A. Approximately two weeks from glaze day. Participants have 4 weeks after glazing to pick up their work. Scout projects will no longer be available for pick up after April 29, 2017.

Badges are not sold at the museum. However, you may purchase an AMOCA patch for $4.00. Limited stock available. Maximum of 25 scouts per time slot.

Frequently Ask Questions:
What information do I need before I register my troop?
You will need the troop leader’s contact information, the type of troop you have, the number of scouts you will be bringing, your preferred workshop time, and your preferred glazing time. Workshop slots begin at 12:00 or 1:00 PM.
Can additional chaperons accompany the scouts?
Yes they can! Additional chaperons are welcomed at $7 a person. This does not include the clay activity.
What happens if I need to cancel?
Paid events are eligible for a refund with a 7 day cancellation notice. If you do find that you need to cancel, please call the Museum so that another Scout may participate.
What happens if one of my scouts gets ill or not everyone shows up on the day of the workshop?
Unfortunately we are unable to give refunds on the day of the event. Paid events are eligible for a refund with a 7 day cancellation notice.
What happens if I paid for 20 scouts but an additional 5 scouts would like to come to the event?
Contact us immediately so we can make sure there is space available. There is an additional charge for participants without a reservation. Space is subject to availability.
My child is not in the Boy Scouts of America or Girl Scouts of the USA but is in another scout group, can they participate?
Yes they can! Scouts Day is open to the following groups: American Heritage Girls, Camp Fire, Spiral Scouts, and Woodcraft Rangers. Please contact the Museum if you are not sure if your group qualifies.
