Collecting California

October 13, 2012 - January 26, 2013 in The Vault

About Weil Ware in the Collecting California exhibition...
Started by Max Weil, Weil Ware of California was one of 100's of Southern California potteries and ceramic figurine manufacturers that typified the 1940s and 1950s. Weil and others combined mass-production techniques with the beauty of hand-decorated surfaces. The original black and white factory photos, included in this exhibit, capture a unique perspective into the mode of dress, work environment, and technical aspects of mass production that flourished before and during the mid-century.

The selection offered in the raffle (pictured here) represents the style of dinnerware in our permanent collection. The Weil Ware was donated to AMOCA by Jody and Scott Siegler in loving memory of their daughter, Julia. The pieces in AMOCA's permanent collection will be part of the fall Collecting California exhibition. The raffle will be awarded during the Teens at the Wheel event, where attendees will have an opportunity to view Collecting California, as well as try their hand at the potter's wheel.
