Volunteering at AMOCA
NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR THE VOLUNTEER CLASS OF 2013
Volunteering at AMOCA is a great way to learn more about ceramics, meet people with similar interest, and share your enthusiasm for ceramics with visitors. Volunteers are an important part of AMOCA's culture and essential part of making our museum a success. We recruit volunteers year-round, started in 2012; volunteers will be on a yearly "class" system and be asked to re-up your training & commitment once a calendar year.

Types of Volunteers
With the move to our new facility, the need for adult volunteers who can make specific commitments to the success of AMOCA has grown just as fast as our square footage! All volunteers are organized through Judy Jacobs, our volunteering coordinator; however once you've been included in a specific group you'll have training and work with our staff member directly responsible for that area of the Museum's programming.
Docents - Docents (volunteer teachers) conduct educational tours and lessons for student groups and adults visiting the museum. AMOCA welcomes an average of 2-3 student groups a week. To find out more about becoming a docent and to apply, click here.
Collection Volunteers - AMOCA's permanent collection, library and digital resources require thousands of hours of maintenance every year to keep them categorized and accessible. Collection volunteers work in the library, permanent collection storage facilities, photography studio and the collection office. They assist with recording, archiving, care taking, organizing and moving our growing permanent collection. In addition, collection volunteers are needed to assist in the maintenance and loans of our Ceramics Library books. Collection volunteers will be trained in their specific tasks and should be willing to commit to volunteering at least once a month. ***Volunteers with library organization experience are especially needed at this time.***
Studio Volunteers - The Ceramics Studio at AMOCA is a growing, vibrant community of potters and ceramic artists of all levels. Studio Volunteers assist with teaching, processing clay, cleaning and maintaining the studio and running pottery sales. Studio volunteers should have some background in ceramics and be willing to commit to volunteering at least once a month. ***Experienced ceramicists who are willing to teach and work with children and other studio students are especially needed at this time.***
Service Volunteers – AMOCA’s Museum Store, The Artists’ Gallery, pottery sales and daily visitors are AMOCA's lifeblood. Service volunteers assist visitors in our gallery, work in our museum store, run video programs, greet visitors and help with special events. Service volunteers will be trained but a background in customer service or sales is a plus. Service volunteers should be willing to commit to volunteering at least once a month. ***People who would like to sit in a quiet place and read are especially needed to sit our gallery during open hours. ***
Special Projects Volunteers - Addressing invitations, sending out mass mailings, preparing hands-on projects for school groups, glazing/firing after a family event, helping out with show installations and de-installations, renovations of the rest of our facilities and other general office tasks all require volunteers. There is no minimum time requirement and a vast selection of jobs is available. While there is no minimum time requir ement, we do ask that you work with us to make sure tasks get finished once started, either by yourself or by letting us know when you won't be able to finish so we can recruit another volunteer to pick up where you leave off. ***Persons with backgrounds in construction, woodworking, electrical and plumbing, and strong backs are especially needed at this time as we continue to work on renovating Gallery B to show our permanent collection and our basement storage facility to store our collection.***
