Getty Marrow Curatorial Tour: Mata Ortiz

Friday, December 12, 2025 • 11:00 AM –12:00 PM • In Person

Join us for a tour of AMOCA’s exhibition In Their Hands: The Evolution of Mata Ortiz Pottery with 2025 Getty Marrow Curatorial Intern Nico Kossakowaski.

Nico Kossakowaski will give a tour of the Vault exhibition and share his process curating and installing the show. This will be a lecture and opportunity to ask any questions you might have about the Getty Marrow Curatorial Internship next year and what curatorial opportunities there will be.

In Their Hands: The Evolution of Mata Ortiz Pottery traces the remarkable development of Mata Ortiz pottery—a living tradition born from both necessity and artistry. This exhibition explores how a small village in northern Mexico transformed archaeological fragments into a thriving ceramic movement that bridges ancient Mogollon techniques with contemporary forms and designs.

In Their Hands is on view in the Igal & Diane Silber Vault Gallery at AMOCA through December 21, 2025.

This in-person event is free with museum admission. Plan to arrive 10 minutes early to allow ample time to park, purchase admission, and meet up with the tour group. We ask that you pre-register for the Curatorial tour at the link below to reserve your spot and help us know how many guests to expect. You can also join the tour the day of event, as space allows.
